Extended Component Library

pick, piece, play, and proliferate...

A few simple partitions are all that is needed, especially at the larger scale, for very interesting spatial play. In addition to openings and internal placement, a select material pallet of opaque, transparent, and screened surfaces provide imaginative interest. They also hint at larger architectural and climatic context, inviting children to consider temporal and environmental scenarios for their structures.

Electric connections

schematic of piece id and orientation sensing

The electric structure of the piece is fairly simple. The architectural tops complete three circuits: an led programmed to respond to database matches and user interaction, an unique resistor for the piece an id, and a center-to-corner circuit that provides orientation readings based on resistors in the base. From the base, these circuits then lead to digital output (for led power/programming), analog input (for id and orientation), and finally digital input (for a series of "player" saving buttons).
